Event Description

Title
Small Team, Big Goal: A DIY Approach to Your Next Campaign

Presenter
Jeri Alcock, Board Member, Association of Fundraising Professionals of Oregon and SW Washington, Partner & Senior Consultant, Rose City Philanthropy

A small but hardworking team can make a real impact, even when the goal seems audacious. This holds true for the annual fund as well as capital campaigns. Don’t let the challenges of your small or rural community diminish the success you could accomplish with a major campaign. Assumptions abound when it comes to carrying out a major fundraising initiative. The core principles of a successful campaign still hold true, albeit, with a few customizations.

This session is designed especially for participants who won’t be working with a consultant on their next big campaign and we hope to bust some myths about the need to spend big bucks in order to be successful. We’ll separate out the truth from the urban myths with some practical advice learned firsthand in small and rural communities. Participants will be provided some tools they can adapt for use in their own organizations: a gift table and sample donor questions. While these tools are great for capital campaigns, they can also be adapted for an annual campaign or preparing for major donor visits.

This session will cover:

  • Planning for success: what to focus on in the preparation phase
  • Feasibility studies: When you need them and when you don’t
  • Campaign leadership that goes the distance
  • The roles of major gifts and grants: who, when and why
  • Cost-effective options for getting help when you need it

This workshop is made possible with support from The Ford Family Foundation!
