Event Description

Title
Gender is for everyone! Building Skills to Move Beyond the Binary

Presenter
Kaig Lightner, Quantum Gender

In this session, we will explore the complex layers of how the rigid gender binary system is impacting everyone and ultimately creating division within our workspaces. Often transgender and non-binary people are the focal point when the discussion focuses on gender identity.

This session will center your experience of gender in our society in order to recognize the greater connections between cisgender, transgender, and non-binary people. Through interactive, small group discussions mixed with engaging storytelling from the presenter, you will have the opportunity to increase your gender diversity knowledge in order to create a more welcoming environment for people of all genders.

Goal:
Understand how the rigid gender binary system is impacting all of us and how cisgender, transgender and non-binary people can work together to create more inclusive spaces for people of all genders.

Objectives:

  • Recognize and embrace gender as a full spectrum instead of just two categories
  • Examine how your own gender identity has formed in order to test assumptions
  • Commit to questioning the supposed “rules” of gender in your daily lives

Area of Nonprofit Excellence - Leadership & Culture

Every learning opportunity NAO offers is aligned with one of nine areas of our Principles and Practices for Nonprofit Excellence that NAO believes are critical to every nonprofit’s effectiveness and success. Diversity, equity and inclusion are essential for a thriving, effective and successful nonprofit; therefore, DE&I is embedded across all nine areas.

This event focuses on Leadership & Culture. For additional resources in this category, visit: Leadership & Culture.
