Event Description
Title
Cultural Responsiveness for Nonprofit Board Members
Presenter
Cliff Jones, Consulting Partner, Capacity Building Partnerships
A diverse nonprofit board supports an organization's success with a wider pool of strategies, thinking, experience, contacts, and resources. Creating a welcoming, inclusive and equitable environment on the board is central to tapping these resources, as well as informing the culture of the entire organization.
This workshop will support nonprofit board members and executive directors in using cultural responsiveness, connecting with peers, understanding and engaging more deeply in the imperative for creating welcoming, inclusive and equitable environments.
Help your board be a full partner and appropriate leader in moving your organization towards greater diversity, equity and inclusion. Help your board recruit and engage new members who have the skills your nonprofit most needs.
In this session we will:
- Explore the concept of cultural responsiveness and ways to build that competency into the boards culture
- Connect greater board equity and inclusion to greater organizational equity and inclusion
- Identify cultural practices within boards that could be exclusive and inequitable and identify ways to strengthen the board's skills in practicing inclusiveness and equity
- Identify areas of diversity most needed and strategies for engaging prospective board members who can bring that diversity to your organization
Area of Nonprofit Excellence - Leadership & Culture and Governance
Every learning opportunity NAO offers is aligned with one of nine areas of our Principles and Practices for Nonprofit Excellence that NAO believes are critical to every nonprofit’s effectiveness and success. Diversity, equity and inclusion are essential for a thriving, effective and successful nonprofit; therefore, DE&I is embedded across all nine areas. This event focuses on Leadership & Culture and Governance. For additional resources in this category, visit: Leadership & Culture and Governance. |
