Event Description

Title
Guidance for Leadership: Creating an Equitable Workplace

Presenter
Aaron Spriggs, Training & Project Facilitator, Construct The Present

At the peak of the racial justice uprising following George Floyd and Breonna Taylor’s murders, many nonprofit leaders were called to rethink what racial justice means for their organizations. At the same time, public discourse was critical of leaders who implemented changes through trial-and-error, causing harm to staff and the health of their organization.

What does impactful racial equity look like in practice? This session is designed for leaders seeking up-to-date guidance for their organization.

To understand racial equity and work towards true social change, we will start this session by creating a shared understanding of what this means. Then, we will move on to cover how to implement inclusive strategies in all aspects of your work, from hiring processes, to accountability and equity for an inclusive workplace, and finally to opportunities for upward mobility.

While this session will include some fundamentals, we will move beyond identifying our implicit bias and consider often overlooked components of your organization’s equity practices.

Automatic closed captioning via Zoom is turned on by default for all NAO virtual sessions. For accommodation requests, please contact us at training@nonprofitoregon.org. Advanced notice of at least 10 days is appreciated.

He is also a friend, a brother, a son, and an uncle that enjoys playing music, running, hanging out with the littles, talking on the phone, climbing things and meditating.

Currently, Aaron is a Project and Training Facilitator for Construct The Present (CTP), an Equity-Centered consulting firm based in Portland, OR. CTP uses their lived experiences and professional expertise to help organizations become stronger and more resilient using Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion strategies, such as training, equity audits & recommendations, and being long-term consultants to organizations looking to implement thorough changes.
