Board Governance Plans: What Are They and How Do They Help?

This session focuses on exploring the benefits of a Board Governance Plan that clearly communicates the expectations, responsibilities, and protocols for all those involved in the governance function of a nonprofit. A Board Governance Plan is an opportunity for board members to define their culture, agree on how they will work together, set up how they will measure their success, establish an orientation process, and calendar the work they need to do over the course of a year. A Board Governance Plan removes the guesswork on how the board functions and creates a plan for the board’s work that persists through board leadership changes. Attendees will have time in the session to work in teams to draft elements of a plan they could support.

About the Presenters

Jen and Tim Rusk, Nonprofit Consultants, Rusk Coaching & Consulting

Jen and Tim Rusk both have 30+ years working in the nonprofit sector and share a passion for the good that can come from people working together toward a shared purpose. 

Jen’s expertise includes organization development, executive and leadership coaching, board training and development, community building, strategic planning, project management, fundraising, communications, and conflict management.  Jen has a graduate degree in process and conflict facilitation and coaching certification through the Coaches Training Institute.

Tim works with new executive directors, staff, and board members who want to ‘level-up’ their leadership through coaching and works with nonprofit teams in the areas of business planning, financial management, and navigating change. Tim draws on 20 years of experience as an executive director in Bend, a graduate education in organization development, and a life-long passion for learning.
