Title
Effective Board Management for Meaningful Engagement
Presenter
Sarah Spangler, Nonprofit Education Specialist, NAO
Board service can be challenging to navigate! Meaningful board service requires more than simply knowing what to do; a truly engaged board is one that knows how to lead productively for the greatest positive impact. In this session, we will discuss the finer details of board management including: how to differentiate the role of staff versus board, tips for running effective meetings that move the work forward, and an exploration of how to have productive conversations amongst your various teams - especially when those conversations generate conflict.
This webinar is part of NAO’s Springboard Series – a cluster of trainings designed for rural nonprofits. This session is applicable to both board and staff, particularly those who liaise with boards.
Note: We encourage Board Bright: Governance Roles & Responsibilities as a prerequisite, though it is not required.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand Board Chair, Board Member, and Executive Director roles
- Incorporate tools for effective collaboration between Board Chair and Executive Director
- Learn techniques for running effective board and committee meetings
- Examine how boards can engage in productive dialogue, including navigating conflicts
Automatic closed captioning via Zoom is turned on by default for all NAO virtual sessions. For other accommodation requests, please contact us at training@nonprofitoregon.org. Advanced notice of at least 10 days is appreciated.
