Rick Levine, one of the Northwest’s most senior and successful grant writers, will guide you through the ins and outs of grant research, proposal development, and funder relationships. This workshop aims to teach you how to position your organization and its programs for private grants funding. We will explore where grants funding fits in a nonprofit’s overall fundraising plan, including its advantages and limitations. It will specifically address foundation and corporate giving programs, structures, intents, and processes in order to illuminate what grantmakers are looking for and to identify which of your projects might potentially be a fit.
Rick will present information that is critical for success in attracting grants, including:
- Defining and assessing the fundable idea, program, or project
- Finding the right funder through both formal and informal research
- Tailoring your request to meet the funder’s interests
- Developing funder contact and cultivation strategies and techniques
- Tracking funder prospects
In the afternoon, the workshop will focus on proposal writing and evaluation as well as funder relationships. In exploring the funder application criteria, we will answer the question—“What will the funder look for?” The proposal writing overview will include:
- Writing the letter of interest
- Budgeting
- Sustainability
- Submission strategies
- Reporting and providing “stewardship” effectively
- Marketing tips
The culmination of this workshop is a panel of representatives from a variety of Oregon's leading private and corporate foundations. Influential, thoughtful, and responsive program officers will discuss how to most effectively present your case in this highly competitive grant-seeking climate. You’ll learn strategies that give your applications a distinct advantage, and gain a deeper understanding of the latest trends and changing foundation and corporation philanthropic priorities and interests. Plus, there will be personal “meet the funder” time.
Recognized by both grantseekers and grantmakers as an extremely effective and enjoyable workshop, don't miss this opportunity to gain new tools and the ability to deploy them in a successful grantseeking effort.
