Event Details

Alaí Reyes-Santos, Associate Professor, University of Oregon, Director, Community Consulting, Board Member, McKenzie River Gathering Foundation

Many of us struggle with conflict across cultural differences in our interpersonal relationships and within our organizations. Common-sense approaches to resolving conflict often fail because the person(s) with whom we have conflict does not share the same beliefs and expectations about how conflict is best handled. Despite our best intentions, we may find ourselves stuck and confused and inadvertently make the conflict worse. Each attempt to fix the problem “digs the hole deeper.” We may walk away with impaired capacity to communicate and work together.

Join a discussion about how to resolve conflict creatively in multicultural workplaces. We will share useful tools to address your organizational challenges around questions such as:

  • How do we incorporate ideals of equity and inclusion in conflict resolution processes?
  • How do we listen to each other and build on our differences to produce better outcomes?
  • How do we avoid sustaining exclusionary or biased institutional practices?
  • How can the creativity of a workplace achieve its full potential by engaging its multicultural reality?
