Kay Sohl, National Nonprofit Financial Management Trainer, Consultant, Kay Sohl Consulting

Learn how to analyze and explain what it really costs your nonprofit to provide its services. Explore research findings on the most effective ways to talk about your real costs with donors, foundations, and governmental funders. Break through the tangled language of “indirect, administrative, and overhead costs” to choose the best approach to determine the full cost of providing each of your services. Learn how your nonprofit may benefit from new federal Uniform Guidance rules for admin and other overhead costs even if you receive no direct federal funds.

In this session, participants will:

  • Learn and discuss why your nonprofit needs to know what it really costs to provide services
  • Evaluate the pros and cons of your current approach to charging administrative, overhead, shared, or indirect costs to governmental awards and contracts and foundation grants
  • Learn more about new research on donor and funder response to overhead and administrative cost language
  • Explore how the new 10% de minimus indirect cost rate available to nonprofits receiving governmental funding may help your nonprofit
  • Choose the best strategy for your nonprofit
