Event Details

Presenter
Kay Sohl, National Nonprofit Financial Management Trainer, Consultant, Kay Sohl Consulting

Break through the tangled language of “indirect, administrative, and overhead costs” to evaluate multiple approaches to cost allocation, to determine the full cost of providing each of your services.

Join Kay Sohl to explore new strategies to increase the amount you can recover from grants and contracts to cover essential administrative and overhead costs. You’ll learn how your nonprofit can benefit from new OMB Uniform Guidance rules for admin and other overhead costs (even if you receive no direct federal funds) and how the new rules require federal agencies, and state, local, and nonprofit pass-through entities, to allow nonprofits to charge a new minimum of 10% overhead.

Topics will include:

  • Evaluating your current approach to charging administrative, overhead, shared, or indirect costs to governmental awards and contracts and foundation grants
  • Understanding the new 10% de minimus rate
  • Pros and cons of cost allocation and direct charging methods to recover indirect costs
  • Determining if you can or should negotiate a federal indirect cost rate
  • Choosing the best strategy for your nonprofit
