Want to improve your board of directors? Would you like your board of directors to be more engaged in fundraising and development? This is the workshop for you, whether you are a board member, executive director or development staff member.
Participants will leave the workshop with a better understanding of:
- Board responsibilities and expectations
- How to attract professionals who will enhance your board of directors
- How to engage your board of directors in fundraising
- Taking the fear and mystery out of fundraising
- How board members can use their natural skill sets to enhance fundraising for their organization
Participants will also receive several tools to take back to their organization including:
- State of Oregon Attorney General’s guidelines for board members
- Sample board matrix
- Sample board member job description
- Sample board member agreement
- Quiz to determine the skill set of your board members
About the Presenters
Clarinda Hanson White, Founder, Fundraising on a Mission
Clarinda Hanson White brings practical fundraising solutions to growing nonprofits. Her approach of “fundraising on a mission” has empowered Board members, staff, and volunteers by taking the mystery and fear out of fundraising. For over 20 years Clarinda has worked with large and small nonprofits to implement new fundraising strategies with proven results. Clarinda finds particular satisfaction in making a dramatic difference with nonprofits who need to build a fundraising program from the ground up.
James K. Phelps, Principal, JKP Fundraising, LLC
James K. Phelps, J.D., ACFRE is a graduate of the University of Oregon and the University of Oregon School of Law. He began his professional development career in 1990. He worked as the Executive Director of Lane County AIDS Hospice Services and Salem Outreach Shelter. He also served as the Library Development Officer at Fort Vancouver Regional Library District, Major & Planned Giving Manager at Planned Parenthood of the Columbia-Willamette and Development Director at the American Civil Liberties Union of Oregon. Phelps started his own development consultant business, JKP Fundraising, LLC, in 2011.
