The United Way Martin Luther King, Jr. Weekend of Service is part of a
nationwide day of service designed to mobilize tens of thousands of caring
individuals around the nation to volunteer in service to others and celebrate the life and legacy of the late Dr. King.

Organized by Hands On Greater Portland, the volunteer arm of United Way of
the Columbia-Willamette, and now in its eight year, United Way’s MLK Weekend of Service offers more than 50 projected volunteer service projects in
Multnomah, Washington, Clackamas, and Clark Counties from January 17-19,
2015. Last January, more than 1,000 volunteers in the four-county area
honored Dr. King through 46 separate volunteer projects across the region
totaling 3,900 hours of volunteer service.

Volunteer projects taking place during the Martin Luther King Weekend of
Service include restoration and refurbishing projects at schools and
community centers, sorting food and clothing, serving meals, home repairs,
planting trees, and more.
