Thinking of starting your own non-profit but don’t know where to start? Oregon Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts presents a two-part workshop for those interested in starting a creative nonprofit. With presentations and interactive Q&As with attorneys and non-profit executive directors, you will get the information you need to determine whether and when to start a nonprofit, and how to tackle the IRS forms and particulars of nonprofit governance.

Part 1 – So You Think You Want To Start a Nonprofit: Choosing the Nonprofit Path – Introductions to nonprofits, factors in determining whether to be a nonprofit or for-profit creative business, and essential questions you should know prior to launch.

Join experienced attorneys Jeremy Babener, Kohel Haver and Jennifer Rollins, and Forge’s Robert Bart, as they lead you through an overview of the information you’ll need to collect, the purposes, types and rules of nonprofit corporations, and the pluses and minuses of running nonprofits to help you decide if this is the right path for you. Refreshments will be provided.

Part 2 – Ready, Set, Go: Tackling the Formation Process – State and federal forms and filing requirements, taxation and unrelated business income issues.

Aimed to assist those who have made the decision to move ahead, this event with provide a more in-depth look at the nonprofit formation process, IRS 501(c) applications, tax considerations and governance decisions. Join an experienced panel of attorneys and nonprofit directors, and learn more about how to tackle the forms yourself and when to call in the professionals.
