Nonprofit Support Services
Pizza, Salad, No-host Bar & Networking at 5:00
Presentation at 5:30
Nonprofits are intended to benefit the community rather than any individual or shareholder. Oversight of this “public benefit” is entrusted to the Board members. In an era of increased compliance and increased scrutiny by the public, the media, and the government, we as Board members are increasingly anxious about our roles and responsibilities. We want our organizations to be considered ethical and transparent, but what exactly do those terms mean and how do we act on them?
Led by nonprofit attorney and expert David Atkin, this session will address the importance of good governance and accountability and guide participants through:
- Preventing improper private benefits, and avoiding prohibited private inurement
- Handling conflicts of interest
- Whistleblowers
- Board and staff’s respective roles in managing for an ethical organization
