About this event

Live Wire Radio is Portland’s own nationally syndicated radio variety show. If you haven’t been to a Live Wire show before, here’s what you’re in for: it’s a bold, sometimes unusual, sometimes-dangerous-but-always-delightful mix of music, conversation and comedy. With beer.

Join us at the next live show! Some of our guests will include:

Barney Frank
After serving as a legislator for over 30 years and Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, Barney Frank was still well-liked when he retired in 2013—he was rated the smartest, funniest and most eloquent member of Congress by Washingtonianmagazine. In 1987, Frank was the first representative of the house of representatives to come out as gay.

Ian Karmel
Before he was appearing on Conan and writing for Chelsea Lately and the new James-Corden-headed Late Late Show, standup comic Ian Karmel told a great, heartwarming story on a little show called Live Wire Radio. We like to think we’re totally responsible for his success.

Aparna Nancherla
A standup comic with a decidedly absurdist point-of-view, Aparna Nancherla has appeared on Conan, @Midnight and as a semi-regular commentator on the totally great but totally-canceled-before-its-time Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell.

Joe Pug
After touring relentlessly for four years, singer/songwriter Joe Pug finally took a breather, and it paid off in spades. His latest release, Windfall has been deemed his best yet by critics who have called him, strangely, a “more urgent, imploring and non-whiny Bob Dylan.” They’re right. Bob Dylan IS whiney.

Goapele
Goapele means “to move forward” in Setswana, and she has been doing that since her debut in 2001 as an American singer/songwriter, appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Conan, and Soul Train and in magazines like Rolling Stone and Billboard. Her latest release is Strong as Glass.

More to be announced!
