About this event

Kay Sohl
National Trainer & Consultant
Kay Sohl Consulting

Presentation & Continental Breakfast at 8:00
Networking at 9:30

How much is too much for your nonprofit to spend for management and fundraising? For many nonprofits, a more urgent question may be how much is too little? Too small an investment in effective management or broadening your base of financial support may limit your ability to achieve your mission. Every funder or donor wants to support a well managed, broadly supported organization, but no one really wants to pay for it.

Clearly, there’s a big communication problem around nonprofit budgets for programs, administration, and fundraising. Learn how your nonprofit can break through the confusion and present its financial plan for accomplishing its essential mission. Discussion topics will include:

  • Defining administrative, fundraising, shared, indirect, and overhead costs
  • Presenting administrative and fundraising costs strategically in budget proposals and financial reports
  • Coping with restrictions and limitations on admin/overhead costs in government and foundation funding
  • Projecting and evaluating the return on investment in fundraising
  • About the Presenter

Kay Sohl has provided training and consultation for CFOs, executive directors, and Boards of over 5,000 nonprofit organizations throughout the United States. Kay’s work is focused on redevelopment of nonprofit business models, compliance with federal funding requirements, financial management, and Board governance issues. Kay is a frequent presenter for AICPA national nonprofit conferences, and has worked extensively with community action agencies, domestic violence programs, land trusts, affordable housing, and a variety of state and local public and private funding agencies. She is co-author of The Oregon Nonprofit Corporation Handbook, a comprehensive guide to legal, financial, governance, and management issues for community-based nonprofits, now in its 4th edition; and continues to teach nonprofit financial management for the Portland State University School of Public Administration.
