The Power of Mission-Centered Grantsmanship: From Good Ideas to Great Grant Funded Programs

About this event

Maryn Boess
National Nonprofit Trainer & Consultant, Founder
GrantsUSA

As truly successful grantseeking organizations know, effective grantsmanship is much more than knowing how to fill in the blanks on a grant application. At its best, the practice of grantsmanship serves as a powerful catalyst for positive change in the community—for turning good ideas into something real, valuable, and tangible in the world. And at its best, it all starts with mission—a deeply held, common understanding of who your organization is in the world, what your unique contribution is, and why your work is important.

In this session, you’ll lay the groundwork for successful grantsmanship by going deep into the meaning of mission, and how it applies to the grantseeking process. You’ll develop a new appreciation for your role in your organization’s grantseeking success and a new understanding of your organization’s staff, Board, and volunteers as members of the “grants team.” You’ll explore a step-by-step roadmap for systematic, strategic, and successful grantseeking that grows straight from the heart of your organization’s mission. And you’ll be introduced to three simple but powerful tools to help you start the process of transforming your organization’s good ideas into great grant-fundable concepts.

We will focus on:

  • Mission-Centered Grantsmanship: What’s It All About, and Why Should We Care?
  • A Different Definition of “Grantsmanship”
  • The Five Essential “Rules” of the Grantsmanship Game: An Overview
  • Three Key Tools for Strategic Grantsmanship
  • Next Steps

This class is strongly recommended as a prerequisite for the other sessions in the Successful Grants Stewardship webinar series.

About the Presenter

Maryn Boess is a 22-year grant professional with more than $30 million in grant funding to her credit. As founder of GrantsUSA LLC, she created a portfolio of high-quality, low-cost grants information, tools, publications, websites, and training curricula. These include the multi-level Grantsmanship Academy certificate course and the Ultimate Grants Toolkit resource notebook and CD set. A leader in the national grantsmanship field, Maryn travels extensively to share her highly-regarded workshops and seminar presentations on strategies for nonprofit success. Since October 2006, she has also been “on the other side” —managing about $2 million annually in grantmaking for higher education through the Arizona Board of Regents.

About the Series

We have built the Successful Grants Stewardship webinar series around the principles, tools, and strategies of grantsmanship essentials. Not to be confused with a beginning granstmanship or Grants 101-type program, these are rigorous, content-rich sessions designed for grants novices and veterans alike. The series will show you a new, powerful way to think about your role in the grants field; new, powerful strategies for organizing and managing a successful grants effort; and new, powerful tools for winning corporation, foundation, and government dollars to support your organization’s work.
