About this event

This event is provided by Deschutes National Forest

Come and Meet Shirley Metcalf, the new President of Central Oregon Community College, which serves 17,000 credit and non-credit students, has a 10,000 square mile service district, and is one of the oldest community colleges in the nation (65 years). Shirley was born and raised in Hawai`i and is Asian with both Japanese and Chinese ancestry. She was educated in Hawai`i and the mainland and has held positions in higher education institutions in Hawai`i and the Pacific Northwest. She will share her experiences with you of adjusting to life on the mainland after living more than half her life in Hawai`i. She will also share her vision of partnering with the Forest Service and other community groups in the future. HAPA means crossing cultures. HAPA EA is the local Forest Service chapter of the Asian Pacific American Employee Association (APAEA) which sponsors the Storyteller Series. The goal of HAPA EA is an open forum that supports learning about cultures in our community and other places.
