About this event

This event is provided by FACT Oregon

This is a chance to make new connections and hear national speaker Kathie Snow and other local speakers discuss disability as it relates to education, health, faith, and recreation.

Youth experiencing disabilities and their families face perceived and real attitudinal, cultural, and physical barriers to participating in community activities. FACT’s Disability Awareness Symposium will challenge parents and community providers to explore the cost of segregation and the importance of designing vibrant communities with connections to nature, recreation, health, faith, and education that are welcoming to all. National speaker and author Kathie Snow will share the message that disability is natural, and four local speakers will share their personal experiences in learning the importance of life in community and how they sought and secured that for their child.

FACT empowers Oregon families experiencing disability with peer-delivered support, trainings, and resources that are by families, for families. It does so as a leadership organization for individuals and their families experiencing disability, working collaboratively to facilitate positive change in policies, systems, and attitudes through support, advocacy, and partnerships. FACT envisions a time in Oregon when people with disabilities and their families experience full equality of opportunity in all areas of
their lives.
