Nonprofit Fiscal Managers Association

Enterprise Risk Management

Ecotrust Conference Center, 2nd Floor 721 NW 9th Avenue
Portland

About this event

Melissa Yarnell, Vice President of Risk
Alliance of Nonprofits for Insurance (ANI)

Presentation & Continental Breakfast at 7:30
Networking at 9:00

Risk is anything that can derail your nonprofit from accomplishment of its mission. Identification of the various risks to your organization is a critical first step in reducing your vulnerability to them. But what is the second step? And how can an organization manage the changing risks it faces as its programs and services evolve?

Without a defined framework, the risk management function can take a backseat to an organization’s other top priorities. In a busy organization, finding the time to develop and maintain a risk management function can be a challenge. At this session, we will focus on building an Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework from the ground up, and review some tools that may be adopted and modified to meet the unique needs of your nonprofit organization.

We will:

  • Review some common claims scenarios that face the nonprofit sector
  • Compare traditional forms of risk management with Enterprise Risk Management (ERM)
  • Provide a step-by-step guide in developing a new ERM framework for your organization
