If you have ever faced the challenge of reaching new donors or engaging existing donors at a higher, more impactful level, then you will want to join us for this conversation exploring what donors expect and what we should deliver. We've invited local donors and development staff to share their tools, tips, and experience for strengthening relationships between donors and organizations that will in turn improve effectiveness and long-term impact. Ensure that your allocation, campaign, and communication activities include information essential for meeting donor expectations.

We will explore:

• Why donors support issues and the importance of community impact on your fundraising and campaign efforts
• Essential information donors and potential donors want to know about your program
• The importance of not only what you say to donors and potential donors, but also when and how you say it
• Essential information you need to know from donors to improve their donor experience
• How the donor experience directly impacts the success of your campaign efforts
• Why donor fulfillment is critical for ongoing donor satisfaction and support
• How often to communicate with your donors

About the Presenters

Katy Yoder

Katy Yoder just celebrated her 10th anniversary with Sisters Folk Festival Inc (SFF). She started her career with SFF as their events director. In her third year, she transitioned to full-time development work and has helped grow SFF's assets and programming ever since. Katy attributes her success to developing authentic relationships with her donors. Katy considers herself lucky to work in an industry that attracts the kind of people she loves to be around. In 1993, Katy took a 13-year hiatus as a full-time mom and part-time writer. Before that she had a career as an employment specialist in San Francisco. Her work included managing over 350 temporary employees, outside sales and office management for one of her employer's branch offices. Prior to her work at Madsen Personnel, she worked for former Senator S.I. Hayakawa as his executive assistant. Working for an expert in semantics and linguistics helped her hone her writing and communication skills.

Tim Rusk

Tim Rusk is Executive Director of MountainStar Family Relief Nursery, a Central Oregon nonprofit providing early childhood child abuse prevention services. Tim joined MountainStar in 2002 after working with the founding board to incorporate the organization as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Tim has provided strategic leadership, financial management, fundraising, and board development for the organization as it has grown to serve 450 children annually, raise $500k in individual and business gifts, and operate with a $1.7 million dollar budget.

Fran Willis

Fran Willis is the Donor Relations Officer of Central and Eastern Oregon with the Oregon Community Foundation. She works with advised fund donors and their families around Central and Eastern Oregon to connect them to the causes they care about. A key part of this work is to assist donors and their children to help them identify how to best work together in their giving. To support family’s areas of interest in Oregon, Fran is constantly learning about community and nonprofit needs and programs to then sharing these insights when donors inquire. Her life work is to make a difference by connecting people, ideas and resources. Prior to joining the Oregon Community Foundation, Fran worked from Bend with Bank of the Cascades for four years to run their Oregon and Idaho marketing and corporate philanthropy efforts. Her background includes work as a nonprofit consultant to help organizations share their stories and develop effective community outreach programs. She is currently on the Advisory Committee with the Deschutes Land Trust and the Governor appointed Central Oregon Regional Solutions Advisory Committee.

Julie Lyche

Julie N. Lyche has lived and worked in Central Oregon for more than 20 years and has been the Executive Director of the Family Access Network (FAN) since 2003. She has worked with community agencies for over 25 years as a funder and agency provider, focusing on issues involving children and families. She is passionate about strengthening local, regional, and state partnerships to better serve our disadvantaged children, teens and families. Julie believes that the strength in FAN lies with the relationships between FAN advocates, schools, local social service partners and families. Julie is honored to work in an organization that helps children receive an education and break the cycle of poverty.
