Budget Building for Grant Professionals

About this event

Maryn Boess
National Nonprofit Trainer & Consultant, Founder
GrantsUSA

At the heart of every mission-driven grant proposal stands a mission-driven budget. A good budget provides an honest, complete, and clear picture of the total value of all the resources necessary to perform the proposed work. It also stands as an invaluable management and evaluation tool when it comes to running the grant-funded program.

In this session, you’ll learn the principles of mission-driven budgeting, and how those principles apply to foundation, state, and federal grant requests. You’ll learn how grantmakers evaluate budgets and what your budget says about your organization. And you’ll work with simple but powerful budget-building tools to help you organize your financial information in the clearest, most powerful way.

Topics covered will include:

  • The five key qualities of a mission-driven program budget
  • Building a foolproof budget: A checklist planning tool
  • “Matching” funds, volunteer time, and related issues
  • Direct versus indirect costs
  • Sample budget formats

In this session, you’ll be introduced to GrantsUSA’s exclusive Master Budget Planning Checklist and Worksheet, a planning tool to help make sure you’re crafting a budget that is comprehensive, realistic, and bullet-proof—and that will work for you.
