About this event

This event is provided by AFP Oregon and SW Washington Chapter

“Questions to Start Gift Planning Conversations” will be presented by
Greg Sharkey, Senior Philanthropy Advisor for The Nature Conservancy, on
Friday, March 17 at a breakfast meeting and workshop. The event will be held
from 7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Portland State University Native American
Student Center, 710 SW Jackson Street, Portland, OR 97201. The program is
sponsored by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Oregon &
Southwest Washington Chapter and Northwest Planned Giving Roundtable
(NWPGRT).

During the presentation, Sharkey will share questions for donors that often
lead to conversations that result in charitable gifts, which he calls the
softer side of gift planning. He will illustrate how these questions
eventually led to gifts through a series of brief stories, and will invite
attendees to share their stories as well. As Senior Philanthropy Advisor for
The Nature Conservancy, Sharkey assists donors across the country with their
philanthropic goals, and shares ideas to achieve those goals as part of their
overall financial and estate plans. He also counsels donors on the features,
benefits and limitations of charitable giving platforms like Donor Advised
Funds and Private Foundations.

Prior to joining The Nature Conservancy in January 2008, he served as
Director of Planned Giving/Senior Development Officer at his alma mater,
Denison University. Greg directed all aspects of Denison’s well-established
planned giving program, and managed a traditional portfolio of major gift
prospects as well.

The meeting is free for AFP and NWPGRT members and $25 for non-members.
Pre-registration is required for all. Online registration is available at
www.afporegon.afpnet.org. For additional information about this event or the
