This class teaches all the essentials for writing grants. Learn how to research new prospects for grantwriting and build an annual grants calendar. Then, walk step-by-step through writing every section of a great grant proposal. Students who take the Spark the Fire Essential Grantwriting class report that they return to work confident and inspired to write grants. This class is perfect for beginning and intermediate grantwriters – those who have never written a grant proposal as well as those who have some grants under their belt and want to brush up on their skills.


  • Learn where to find grants, including some sources you might not have known about.
  • Understand grant applications and guidelines.
  • Gather research to write a compelling case for the need for your project.
  • Learn step-by-step each section of the grant proposal and what should be included.
  • Develop goals and objectives for your proposal as well as write about how you will measure success.
  • Review different formats and techniques for presenting your budget for your proposal.
  • Learn when and how to contact grantmakers to best build a long-term relationship.
  • Learn how and when to send reports to properly steward the grantmaker's investment.
  • Learn to organize an annual calendar for grant submissions that works.
  • Learn insider tips that make your proposal stand out above the crowd.
  • Learn to balance statistical data, evidence-based research, and anecdotal evidence to tell your organization's story.
  • Develop evaluation tools and logic model framework for your program to better demonstrate results.
  • Review samples of evaluation rubrics used by grantmakers to score your proposal. 

COST Registration is limited to the first 25 individuals who sign up. The cost of the workshop is $95 per person when you register before March 21st. After that, the cost is $115 per person. Registration includes a comprehensive handbook, a collection of digital templates, and coffee/tea bar. INSTRUCTOR

Allison is an Approved Specialist in the Statewide Nonprofit Resource Directory. She is a veteran grantwriter, instructor, and nonprofit consultant with more than twenty years' experience writing grants. She has taught grantwriting classes to hundreds of non-profit professionals in the last four
years. Allison has secured millions of dollars in grants from foundations,
corporations, and government sources for our community. She has served as a
board member of the Puget Sound Grantwriters Association, member of the
Association of Fundraising Professional, and as a site reviewer for 4Culture.
She is currently a guest columnist for the Foundation Center – New York.
