Nonprofit Board Network

The Five Life Stages of Nonprofit Organizations

Ecotrust Conference Center, 2nd Floor 721 NW 9th Avenue
Portland

About this event

Jonathan Abramson, Partner
avenue2possibilities LLC

Pizza, Salad, No-host Bar & Networking at 5:00
Presentation at 5:30

Great nonprofit leaders concentrate on critical stages in the life of their organizations, skillfully projecting future needs, making decisions proactively, and addressing challenges before they overload their resources. Using the Five Life Stages assessment, Board and staff can determine if the growing pains they are experiencing are normal and inevitable or signs of incompetence and impending disaster.

In this fun-filled and illuminating session, learn what is predictable and normal for nonprofit organizations and how the Five Life Stages assessment supports them in examining:

  • Governance
  • Leadership
  • Finance
  • Administrative systems
  • Staffing
  • Products and services
  • Marketing

Put problems in context. Learn what is common for your stage of development, and what issues point to potential weaknesses and threats.

Effectively manage transitions from one stage to the next. Know where you’re headed and how you might possibly reach your next stage of growth.

Keep the organization on track. Watch for the warning signs of decline and dissolution.

About the Presenter

Twelve years ago after working in project management and organizational development positions for most of his career, Jonathan Abramson transitioned into the nonprofit sector. He has had many fulfilling moments working on all sides of the table with nonprofits—as staff, committee member, volunteer, and independent counsel. Jonathan’s company avenue2possibilities LLC trains nonprofit leaders and staff to focus on why they do what they do from the 50,000 feet level and aim at their vision for what is possible for their community far above the myriad details of day-to-day operations. Jonathan has Associate Certified Coach credentialing with NeuroLeadership Group™. He finds their neuroscience-based coaching process helps his clients quite literally think better and achieve their goals faster than they have previously experienced making them more satisfied in their professional and personal lives.
