Cloud accounting is the future…cloud accounting is now!

The evolution of how we use technology and how we work is ever changing. Accounting software has also undergone a similar evolution—from pencil and paper to spreadsheets to desktop software and now to online or “cloud” accounting. In this session, we will provide an overview of online cloud accounting, outline important considerations in moving to the cloud, and discuss a variety of software applications available, beyond QuickBooks online. We’ll learn about how McDonald Jacobs is using cloud computing for their own practice and how they are supporting their clients in using cloud accounting. We’ll also open the session to discussion and encourage attendees to share their experiences with online accounting software.

About the Presenters

Susan Marks, Audit Shareholder at McDonald Jacobs PC, is an Oregon CPA (also licensed in Washington) with over 30 years of experience as an auditor and practicing accountant, specializing in the nonprofit industry. She oversees the firm’s quality control program and maintains an Oregon Municipal Auditors license. Susan serves on the Board of Bicycle Transportation Alliance and volunteers on the finance committee for Cascadia Behavioral Healthcare.

Tyee Carr, Principal at McDonald Jacobs, is a strategic advisor for entrepreneurs. As a CPA with both local and international accounting firm experience, Tyee has broad technical expertise in LLC operation and taxation. An entrepreneur himself, he has assisted clients in structuring their businesses, managing cash flow and maximizing after-tax profits. He also founded TyeeReview.com, providing professional development and training for CPA firms. Tyee graduated from the University of Oregon and began his career as a Senior Accountant at McDonald Jacobs. He gained big-picture accounting acumen as a manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers, and then founded his own consulting business serving entrepreneurial teams in many industries. He says that returning to McDonald Jacobs is like coming home. As a member of the accounting faculty at Portland State University since 2003, Tyee is guiding the next generation of graduate and undergraduate accountants through the rigors of federal income taxation and financial reporting.
