The last two years have brought unprecedented changes to our world, bringing new challenges as we work to serve our communities. We may also see this as a time which offers new opportunities to create structures and practices that support us in meeting the emerging realities we face.

In this interactive cohort, we will explore the Recentering model to strengthen our personal resilience and create tools to bring back to our organizations. The model is based on principles of trauma-informed care and resiliency work; integrative health; positive psychology; and positive workforce engagement. In each of the first four sessions, we will dive into one of the four areas of the Recentering model: roots, values, practices, and anchors. In our final session we will bring it all together and create plans for ongoing self-care to build resiliency, flexibility, and creativity in our work and personal lives, allowing us to be more able to meet the challenges and opportunities we are facing. 

Learning Outcomes

In this five-session series, participants will:

  • Learn about the four areas of the Recentering model: the roots that ground us; the values that guide us; the practices that sustain us; and the anchors that hold us steady
  • Learn about the connections between this model and principles of resiliency, positive psychology, integrative health, and positive workforce engagement
  • Create a personal plan and toolkit for recentering and building resiliency during times of challenge and change
  • Have tools to bring back to their organizations for use with their teams

Session 1

May 18        

Welcome and introduction to the Recentering model; discussion about the principles of resilience; exploration of the Roots that Ground Us: information on the impact of storytelling to build resilience; personal reflection; sharing

Session 2

May 25

Check in; exploration of the Values that Guide Us: information on values assessments and positive psychology; values assessment activity; sharing

Session 3

June 1

Check in; exploration of the Practices that Sustain Us: information on wellness practices and integrative health; assessment activity on personal wellness; sharing

Session 4

June 8

Check in; exploration of the Anchors that Hold Us Steady: information on workforce engagement research and the importance of social connections; social and professional connections activity; sharing

Session 5

June 15

Check in; putting it all together and creating personal plans for self-care and resiliency-building; reflection and sharing; resources for follow up

Additional Guidelines

  • This learning cohort is intended to support Oregon-based 501(c)(3) nonprofits statewide. 
  • Participants make a commitment to all sessions so we can collectively work together and build a network of support. 
  • Conversations will be held as confidential to allow for depth and breadth of exploration.
  • This session is targeted towards experienced leaders who are looking to both expand the repertoire of leadership skills at their disposal, and work on their own commitment to self-development as leaders.
  • Limit is 15 individuals per cohort with no more than two representatives from one organization.
  • Participants make a commitment to attend all sessions.

About the Cohort Facilitator

Michelle St. Romain Wilson, M.A., Wellspring Consulting

Michelle St. Romain Wilson has worked in the nonprofit and education sectors for over 30 years. She has a passion for working with others to make positive change in our communities in ways that support us as individuals, drawing on our unique strengths and talents. She brings training in trauma-informed/resiliency care; equity, diversity, and inclusion; and principles of collaborative change management to her work. She has served in leadership roles and as a consultant with organizations in social services, environmental stewardship, healthcare, holistic health and wellness, youth development, higher education, K-12 education, and the arts in California, Louisiana, Hawaii, and Oregon. She has served on the boards of the Oregon Nonprofit Leaders Conference and the Women’s Leadership Conference of Southern Oregon. Michelle lives in Southern Oregon with her wife, their three teens, a few pets, and a yard full of flowers and food.
