Amanda Singh Bans, MA, LCSW, Resonance Therapy LLC

In this session with Amanda Singh Bans, Mental Health Therapist, participants will explore how encounters with microaggressions and implicit bias are embodied and how to respond to the repeated traumatization of racialized, gendered/sexed, and other oppressed bodies. Many of us in DEIB (diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging) work have attempted to broach deep-seated concepts like these from a left-hemisphere-shifted perspective or using our “logic brain.” Taking that work one step further, participants will learn foundational terms regarding the neurobiology (brain + nervous system + behavior) of relationships, identify survival/trauma responses, and reframe microaggressions as threats to our personal and psychological safety. Participants will also be introduced to micro-intervention strategies and safety-building behaviors to support your organization's inclusive culture building.

About the Presenter

Amanda Singh Bans, MA, LCSW, Resonance Therapy LLC

Amanda Singh Bans (she/her) is a queer-mixed, neurodivergent ciswoman of color currently residing in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Amanda’s ancestors come from Punjab, India; Zacatecas, Mexico; and Germany and England. She is the mother to two multiracial Black sons, a tremendous responsibility in an era fraught with anti-Blackness. Amanda is a practicing relational therapist and specializes in working with culturally dislocated people of color with trauma histories. Her background and training include working with survivors of intimate partner violence, sexual trauma, and narcissistic abuse, as well as adults who experienced abuse as children, and intersectional racial trauma. Her practice is informed by Interpersonal Neurobiology (IPNB), Anti-Oppression Practice, Polyvagal Theory and Attachment Theory. Amanda is also a Level 1 certified Ecotherapist through the Earthbody Institute’s Ecotherapy Training for BIPOC professionals and is currently undergoing training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). In her consulting work, Amanda offers healing-centered and embodied education that draws on neurobiology, anti-oppressive practice, and ecotherapy to enhance self-awareness, personal agency, and relational safety within teams. Amanda seeks to increase psychological safety and wellbeing in the workplace by centering the experiences of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC), LGBTQ+ individuals, and people with targeted identities to help guide organizational change efforts.
