Advanced Grant Strategies

Mercy Corps, Aceh Lecture Room 45 SW Ankeny Street
Portland

About this event

Presenters
Rick Levine, Grant Writer & Trainer
Candy Solovjovs, Program Team Manager, Meyer Memorial Trust
Doug Stamm, Chief Executive Officer, Meyer Memorial Trust

This fall’s Advanced Grant Strategies will feature a special presentation by Meyer Memorial Trust CEO Doug Stamm, who will talk about the current status and near future of foundation funding in Oregon. Doug will offer valuable insights on the emerging interests of the foundation community, how operations and procedures are changing, and the kinds of proposals that receive the strongest consideration. This is an unusual opportunity to gain insight that will help you develop effective foundation strategies going forward.

As in the past, we invite you to join Rick Levine, the Northwest’s most senior grant writer and a group of outstanding foundation program officers to obtain direct feedback on your proposals. You will hear from foundation trustees about what they look for when making funding decisions. Finally, this workshop will feature Meyer Memorial Trust Program Team Manager, Candy Solovjovs, who will present on expectations of experienced grant writers and offer examples of successful proposals.

Plan to receive direct feedback about your proposals from expert program officers, including:

  • Jan Kennedy, M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust
  • Louis King & Shelley Hansen, Spirit Mountain Community Fund
  • Martha Richards, James F. and Marion L. Miller Foundation
  • Candy Solovjovs, Meyer Memorial Trust
  • Jody Valente, The Oregon Community Foundation

Hear from and get a chance to meet these foundation trustees:

  • Debbie Craig, Meyer Memorial Trust
  • John Castles, M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust
  • Jim Meyer, Northwest Health Foundation

This workshop will be an extraordinary opportunity to hear from the leaders of Oregon’s foundation world!

Preparation

First, at the time of registration, we are asking participants to provide us specific questions they would like Doug Stamm to address.

Next, we ask that each participant bring eight copies of a two-page proposal summary, Letter of Intent, or similar foundation request. This narrative description should completely describe your program. If the writing sample is for a funder with specific requirements, please reformat the information so that all aspects of the project are presented. Foundation representatives ask that participants view this as a learning opportunity and suggest that people not bring material that has already been highly successful.

Additional Information

This workshop is designed specifically for experienced grant writers who have written at least three grant proposals.

Sponsored by Pacific Continental Bank
