About this event

Paula Manley, Nonprofit Consultant & Trainer, Paula Manley Consulting

Nonprofit boards of directors serve the common good by stewarding public resources in trust for the communities they serve. High functioning boards are mission-focused, working in partnership with staff leaders to support their organizations and fulfill essential governance duties.

This interactive workshop will explore the rewards of board service and the fundamentals of board development. Topics include:

  • Understanding your organization’s distinctiveness and strategic environment
  • Assessing your nonprofit’s board recruitment needs
  • Effectively recruiting and orienting new board members
  • Fostering a board culture that values learning, relationships, and results
  • Engaging board members with meaningful challenges and opportunities that contribute to mission achievement

We will incorporate the experiences of workshop participants to understand common pitfalls, promising practices, and proven methods for developing effective nonprofit boards that draw on the values, skills, and connections of their members.
