This session will discuss basic concepts that every nonprofit should be aware of in order to better manage and limit risk.

  • See how to apply various techniques such as risk avoidance, risk monitoring and modification of exposures
  • Learn how you can identify and acknowledge risks that effect your organization
  • We will discuss how you can work to leverage your framework to help protect your organization’s property, income, people and reputation

We will also look at some examples of what to do and not do across a broad spectrum of the nonprofit world. Learn what steps you should take today in order make your organization a model of how to manage risk. Within the session, the audience will learn how even small simple steps can help you turn around an organization that has experienced problems or faces tough situations. See what you can do to be proactive in your approach to training and evaluating the challenges you face daily. Identify ways you and your organization can work to create a culture of safety.

About the Presenter

Dan Luttrell is the Loss Control Director at ANI. ANI is part of the Nonprofits Insurance Alliance Group which currently insurers more than 14,000 nonprofit organizations nationwide. Dan has worked in insurance for 25 years. His expertise includes safety training, site inspections, safety committee development, safety analysis and claims auditing. Prior to joining ANI, he worked with public entities in the Midwest as a Loss Control Consultant. He also has worked for various insurance carriers including Zurich Insurance and Safeco over the years. In addition to nonprofits and public entity work he has worked in various areas including construction, small business and on large wrap-up projects all over the country. His background also includes working in premium audit where he worked as a Regional Manager and a Master Premium Auditor. He is an authorized OSHA instructor, defensive driving instructor, traffic flagger instructor and a Certified Missouri Safety Consultant.

Dan attended Missouri State University in Springfield and also holds an Associate in Premium Audit (APA), Associate in Insurance Claims (AIC) and Associate in Insurance Services (AIS) designations. He enjoys time with his family, traveling and marathon running. He lives with his Wife Stacey, youngest Son Daniel and three dogs in the Kansas City area.

Through a unique collaborative arrangement, the Rogue Valley Nonprofit Network (RVNN) on behalf of the Nonprofit Association of Oregon (NAO) presents this comprehensive training series designed to provide timely information and resources on nonprofit management and fund development practices.

Rogue Valley Nonprofit Network is for executive directors and fund development staff, but all nonprofit leaders will gain a deeper understanding or proven practices, tools, and resources for effective management and development.
