Learn at Lunch Series for Rural Nonprofits

Join us over the lunch hour! Are you a rural nonprofit leader looking for practical training and tools to strengthen your organizational leadership skills? Join NAO for an opportunity to learn at one of our regional Learn at Lunch series. Each series is made up of four, one-hour sessions held each week over the lunch hour, virtually. We'll provide bite-sized training in Board Management, Board Recruitment & Retention, Engaging Your Board in Fundraising and Finance Fundamentals. Sessions are provided a la carte, so you can join us for all of them – or what topic you think is most applicable to your work now. Below is a list of upcoming Learn at Lunch Series.

Due to the increasing COVID-19 cases and rise of the Delta variant, all upcoming Learn at Lunch Series will be held virtually via Zoom.

$25 for Non-Members

NAO has a limited number of scholarships available for organization based in rural, and/or BIPOC lead and serving organizations. Scholarships will be allocated on a first come first serve basis. Please contact training@nonprofitoregon.org if you would like to be considered for a scholarship with a brief description of your need.

Board Management
This session will provide an overview of how nonprofit boards can utilize best practices to effectively govern their organizations. We will cover topics including basic roles of board members, understanding your bylaws and mission statement, how boards should work with staff, utilizing committees efficiently while not burning out board members, strategic planning and tips for effective meetings.

Board Recruitment and Retention
It is critical that you get the right people on your board and keep them! In this session, you will learn tested strategies for board recruitment, as well as new, innovative approaches. We’ll also discuss onboarding and orientation processes and how to develop methods that will retain valuable board members and encourage stewardship.

Board's Role in Fundraising
Nonprofit board members can and should be engaged in the fundraising efforts of their organizations in some way. While fundraising may seem intimidating, all board members have an opportunity to meaningfully participate in the process. In this session, we will discuss common barriers that prevent your board from participating in fundraising and present creative ways they can use their unique talents to help. 

Finance Fundamentals
Nonprofit financial management can be a challenge for board members because most of us aren't accountants or bookkeepers! Join us for this session where we'll provide an overview of basic financial principles, including board member fiduciary responsibilities, understanding restrictions, reviewing your statements for key financial indicators, and internal controls.
